Firstly, it does not matter if you can paint. It helps a little, but most fine artists make tons of money today are not representational painters, this means they draw geometric shapes and splashes of paint, using brush heavy and friction movements.
These artists paint recognizable things in their art, generally using a simplified procedure method (not realistic) style animation, which is a million times easier than painting makes objects and people as they are.
I'll still say, representation it out.
What should I paint?
What you want to do is develop a theme and style. Use the same color (not much). Choose your 5 favorite colors. Sober and dull tones are in. Keep your canvases roughly between 3'x3 'and 5'x5' (the gallery average size.) Paint your canvas pretty much a similar, but they vary, when 10 of them are in the same room, they should all look like a large picture cut into pieces. (If you draw the faces of people, keep them near the same).
Do you use many of the same images if you like piano or paint cats, painting cats and pianos all your paintings. This will become your unmistakable style.
Paint a lot and fast painting: time is money. You must be at least 40 paintings ready before thinking about them selling or promoting yourself. The first step is to do the job.
After that, you must prove that your work has value. Unfortunately, this is a writing exercise. You need to craft an excellent bio and statement of where you come from the artistic sensibility, what your paintings mean to you, what they mean to you personally and for others, how you paint (your process), how you feel paints, etc. You must also write a description of each painting: what it is, the colors used, what it represents, size, materials, date, etc.
In total, this represents your "catalog". You can put together a small book or post on your Web page. You should also remember – you must be sure what to say when people ask me 'what does your art mean? or "What's it about '.
Pricing
Pricing is a sensitive issue for artists, who are generally poor (or too confident in their abilities) and thus inflate prices in general or undercutting, or wildly different prices apply according to their mood or their financial situation.
Choose one average price for your average working based on similar paintings that you saw in the places you want to sell. (If another artist is selling a similar piece on the open market for $ 100 and $ 100 amounts to be charged if you want to Sell your work on the open market. If an artist is close to selling a painting in a gallery you for $ 500, then opt for $ 500 if you want to be in the galleries. Money is not important right now is just an indicator of where you position yourself as an artist.
Small tables will be worth less, larger paintings will be worth more. (A table that is twice the size of an array of smaller size can be twice the price as well. This may seem like much, but it will also make the little picture appears as a "good agreement".) Provide a range of price options. Never fluctuate, or a low-ball offer huge discounts'. It is of art, no pirated software.
Show your work
Get it out there! Will you work in public wherever you can, markets, cafes, restaurants, local art galleries, etc. Start small. Get a fan site. Start locally. Big New York Stock shred your packages and letters (and most galleries). Galleries rarely want to be contacted.
Attend exhibitions are part of the community, learn to know the players personally. Get to know local artists and curators. Once you get to know you can casually let on that you're an artist, and they may ask to see your work.
What to do after I done?
The average professional artist earns between $ 500 to $ 5,000 per painting. If you sell 10 paintings a year, you may make about $ 25,000. If you sell 40, you can make $ 100,000. However, if you're popular enough to sell 40 paintings a year, your art is probably much more valuable. If you hit a bubble and people are wildly fanatic of your art, you can do as much as $ 100,000 (or $ 1 million) for a painting.
If you make this picture a lot money, congratulations. Spend some money to increase your visibility and productivity. Hire a housekeeper to clean your studio. Buy a gallery your own and promote yourself emerging artists. Showgirls professional rental to hang out and be nice to all your events opening. Buy paintings by budding artists. Do not take success for granted, but do not take too seriously either.
Just be grateful and remember that you are paid to play with colors.
