The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest body of water in the world and covers a fifth of the surface of the Earth! With an area of approximately 82 million square kilometers excluding its surrounding seas and bays. When the Mediterranean, Black, Baltic, North, Norway and Greenland, and Caribbean seas, Baffin Island and Hudson Bay and the Gulf of Mexico are also considered, the region is approximately 106 million square kilometers. It is the second largest ocean in the world and covers about one fifth of the Earth's surface. This vast water is approximately 350 million cubic kilometers of water, inflows and receives about four times more in the rivers surrounding areas land than in either the Pacific or Indian Ocean. Tropical cyclones (hurricanes) develop off the coast of Africa near Cape Verde and to move westward into the Caribbean Sea, hurricanes can occur from May to December but are most frequent from August to November and likeoil natural resources and gas fields, fish, marine mammals (seals and whales), sand and gravel aggregates, sediments, nodules polymetallic, precious stones.
